The Sommerthing program hired a bunch of artists to supervise the creation of a block long street mural on the wooden wall which surrounded burnt remains from the terrible Coconut Grove fire in Boston on D street & Broadway. Adults, children, and passersby painted all weekend. Life Magazine came to Boston to photograph bakers for a special issue of Life called "Joys Of Christmas". My 30 lb Peaceable Lion and Lamb bread sculpture baked in the big oven of a Boston bakery appeared in the Dec 1972 issue of Life.

New York Tapestry
We spent 25 Saturdays making this 12 foot tapestry called "We Beautified New York" sponsored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and was created by the members children as well as children from the city of Harlem. It hung in the children's library for many years. The International Film Foundation documented this project. |
